Multisol’s UK facility at Irlam, Manchester is celebrating two years without a lost work day accident (LWDA), a significant achievement for a location that features advanced manufacturing, blending, packaging and storage facilities and laboratory.

Site Manager Darren Copson explains: “We are all very proud of this achievement, especially when you consider all of the potential risks within a facility of this type. We continually strive for excellence in safe working practices and undertake regular team meetings and toolbox talks for all personnel where the focus is placed strongly upon human behaviour. Everyone at Irlam is encouraged to get involved in assessing potential hazards and identifying unsafe work practices across the business.”

Darren and his team are now looking to build upon this landmark achievement by introducing a range of new ‘responsible care’ initiatives. These include inviting operators to assess areas of the site where they do not usually work, introducing fresh eyes and opinions that could help reduce, even further, the potential for accidents.

“We must ensure the momentum is sustained and sharing knowledge and experiences is an important element in creating a safe and accident-free environment for our people.”

The Multisol facility at Irlam also undertakes toll processing, blend and contract pack formulations to strict customer specifications. With multi-functional equipment across the site, Multisol UK is able to tailor services to safely handle an array of materials; ranging from flammable solvent mixtures, to viscous oil additives that require elevated temperature operations. Vessels of up to 30,000 litres capacity ensure a fast response to customer requirements whilst automated filling equipment ensures that packing can be undertaken into virtually any size of container.

David Hopkinson, Multisol's newly appointed Chief Operating Officer, commended the team for their achievements at Irlam.

“Congratulations to the whole team for reaching such a milestone,” he adds. “Nothing has a higher priority for us than safety and two years without a Lost Time Incident is a real achievement and demonstrates a strong commitment by everyone to work safely over a long period. Now the challenge is to stay focussed on behaviours and keeping safety front of mind as we look to extend this to a third year.”
