Multisol

Industrial Experience for Local Students

As part of their ongoing commitment to Product Stewardship and promotion of the UK Chemical Industry, Multisol’s Irlam, Greater Manchester site recently hosted a party of A-Level Chemistry students from the North Wales institute, Deeside College.

The purpose of the visit was to create a link between their classroom teachings, and real world applications of chemistry - making connections between many of the concepts taught, with actual industrial examples of chemistry in action.

The students were taken through numerous of the processes conducted on the site, and taken on a plant tour.  Presentations given, explained how phenomena such as catalysis and thermodynamics impact actual production methods employed on site, and how analytical techniques allow for measurement of product qualities.

Sensory sessions allowed the students to feel endothermic reactions in process, and smell the differences subsequent levels of purification treatments can give to hydrocarbon grades.
