Multisol Gives Long-term Support to Local Schools InitiativeMultisol continues to support an initiative that aims to encourage primary school pupils to take an interest in science.
Lorelly Wilson, a fellow at the University of Manchester, has pioneered chemistry workshops for Year 6 pupils (10-11 year age group). The workshops last for a full day and the pupils have the opportunity to do their own experiments using everyday kitchen chemicals.
The initiative known as "Chemistry with Cabbage" takes its name from an experiment whereby red cabbage is used to prepare a litmus indicator to distinguish between acids and bases.
"The workshops help children to understand the role of chemicals in their everyday lives and, wherever they have been held, they have received tremendous welcome from both teachers and pupils alike" said Lorelly Wilson.
Every year, Lorelly completes more than seventy workshops involving over one thousand pupils within the North West.
Multisol Managing Director Paul Oliphant commented, "We welcomed the chance to support this worthwhile initiative. The youngsters have a great time watching the demonstrations and trying out the experiments. It also allows them to learn a great deal about the chemistry involved in their normal day-to-day lives."
Lorelly has established a similar programme in the South East of England, but Chemistry with Cabbage remains in urgent need of additional sponsorship if it is to continue to flourish.
